Coy Van Hudgins

Coy Van Hudgins, age 85 of Arbor Ridge at Eden, passed away on Saturday morning May 11, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 3 pm Monday at First Church of the Brethren with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Coy was born January 28, 1928 in the Spray section of Eden to the late Harry Van Hudgins and Ellen Miles Hudgins.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Coy was a member and former Deacon of First Church of the Brethren. Coy enjoyed camping with his beloved wife Iris Hylton Hudgins, whom preceded him in death. They were members of the Eden Camping Club and Coy was former president of the Wally Byam Airstream Camping Club. He was also a member of Eden Kiwanis Club and the Eden Lions Club.

Coy retired and was a valued employee of Fair Funeral Home. He was formerly an owner of Western Auto and later worked for Met Life, Sears Department Stores, Rockingham County School System and Karastan Rug Mill.

Surviving him is a son, Don V. Hudgins and wife Diane; daughters, Debbie H. Crouch and husband Pete, Diane H. Page and husband George; sister Frances H. Cox all of Eden; brother, Freddie Hudgins and wife Faye of Julian,NC and fiance, June Gentry of Eden; grandchildren, Carrie Chandler, Joe Corum, Matthew Crouch (Heather), Adam Crouch (Crystal), Amanda Crouch, Ellen Hudgins; great grandchildren, Kristen Chandler, Cole Chandler, Jake Chandler, Zoe Lincoln, Caroline Crouch, Lilly Crouch, Claire Crouch, Hannah Crouch and Kylee Iris Crouch; numerous neices and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6 -9 pm Sunday at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Diane, 154 Beaver Run (Indian Hills), Eden.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren, Sound and Video System, 730 Church Street, Eden, NC 27288.
