Cleatus "Clea" Gauldin Shope

Cleatus Irene Gauldin Shope, 99 of Eden, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026 at her home.

A private graveside service will be held at later date.

Cleatus, known as Clea, was born December 1, 1926 in Rockingham County, North Carolina, to the late Bruce Gauldin and Sally Hall Gauldin. She worked as a secretary for many years. Clea was the first Miss Draper, or so she says. She married Truman Shope and they had two children, Randy and Susan. Her grandson, Daniel, was the love of her life. Right now, she is sitting with her best friends, Anne Bradford and Toine Spann, having a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.

Surviving are her children, Randy Shope (Pam), Susan McAbee (Robert Parker), grandson, Daniel Shope.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Truman Shope; parents, Bruce and Sally Hall Gauldin; and her siblings.
