Carolyn Marie Howell Powell

Carolyn Marie Howell Powell, 78 of Eden went to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 19, 2025. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held by the family at 2pm Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at Old Time Baptist Church 1121 E Meadow Rd, Eden NC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall directly after the service with light refreshments. The family will gather other times at the home of Susan Powell Smith, 1309 Meadow Rd, Eden.

Carolyn was born November 23, 1946 in Eden (Draper), NC to the late Raymond Howell and Wayne Samuels Howell. She was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1965. After high school, she continued her education at Burlington Cosmetology School in Burlington, NC.

Carolyn worked as a hairdresser at Powell’s Beauty and Barber Shop for many years before retirement. Carolyn and her husband Kenny just celebrated 60 years of marriage. Their love story started as 1st grade sweethearts at Draper Graded School. They were married her senior year of high school.

She enjoyed ballgames, the beach, shopping, going out to eat and enjoyed her many friends and family members. Most of all ‘Cala’ loved her grandkids. What most will remember about her is that she was always sweet, happy, jolly, lovable Carolyn.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth (Kenny) Don Powell, Sr.; son, Ken Powell (Angie); daughter, Susan Powell Smith (Shane); grandchildren, Kendall Powell, Mason Smith, Megan Powell, Jake Smith, Trey Powell, Brody Smith; brother, Randy Howell (Kelly); sister-in-law, Donna Howell; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and special lifelong friend Carolyn Lemons Ball.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her brother, Keith Howell and her special cousin, Teresa Adkins.
