Carmilla Gaye Evans

December 20, 1936 — January 16, 2021

Carmilla “Gaye” Shreve Evans, 84, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 29, at El Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The service will be live-streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend.  She will lie in repose on Thursday between the hours of 12 Noon and 6 PM at Fair Funeral Home.

Born December 20, 1936 in Leaksville, NC, Gaye was the daughter of the late William Henry Shreve and Lottie Belcher Shreve.  She attended Leaksville High School and was a faithful member of Spray Baptist Church.  She served as secretary of her Sunday School class as well as serving on the Bereavement Committee and the Budget Planning Committee. Gaye was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 40+ years of service.  After retirement she worked in the gift shop at Chinqua Penn Plantation in Reidsville.  Gaye loved playing golf with the Lynrock Ladies Golf Association and enjoyed bowling in her early years.  She was an avid gardener with her flowers and tomatoes.  She loved spending time with her family at the beach, loved camping; loved her church and her church family. Her favorite pastime was reading.

She is survived by her husband, Paul “Jr” Ray Evans, Jr. of the home and her daughters, Pat Hendrix (Houston) of Reidsville and Terri Evans of Eden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence “Gene” A. DeHart and Tony W. Shreve

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spray Baptist Church, 745 Church Street, Eden, NC 27288.
