Carlis Gene Carter, 82, of 305 Bedford Drive in Eden, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2015 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born May 30, 1933 in Spray, NC to the late Glenn and Sadie Hale Carter. He was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills and a retired volunteer fireman for Station 3 in Spray where he volunteered for 20 years. Mr. Carter was the original operator of the Gant Service Station. For 8 years he served in the NC National Guard.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Shirley Belton Carter, of the home; son, Darryl G. Carter and wife, Cathy; daughter, Patricia Jachimiak and husband, Tom; five grandchildren, Teresa Carter, Lisa Carter, Kayluh Carter, Heather Jachimiak, and Hollie Jachimiak; five great-grandchildren, Michael Curry, Courtney Curry, Haylei Carter, Sadie Carter, and Katie Rose Carter; one sister, Ernestine James; and granddogs, Franz, DeeDee, and Brown Dog.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at First Presbyterian Church and other times at the home.
