Carl Bradford

September 3, 1927 — December 22, 2012

Carl Donnie ��������?ᬮ���?�PAPA��������?ᬮ��?? Bradford, age 85 of 272 Fisher Hill Road, Eden peacefully went home to be with his Lord surrounded by his family Saturday evening December 22, 2012 at the Morehead Nursing Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday, December 27 at the First Church of the Brethren with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard.

Mr. Bradford was born September 3, 1927 in the Draper section of Eden to the late Nathan Dempsey Bradford and Lena Mabes Bradford. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren where he was a lifetime Deacon and President f the Deacon Board, President of the Men��������?ᬮ���?묢s Bible Class for 25 years and Chairman of various other church boards. Carl proudly served in the US Army, worked for Fieldcrest Mills and retired from Vanier Graphics after 25 years of service. Mr. Bradford was preceded in death by his parents, many brothers and sisters, and his loving son, Carl Dempsey Bradford, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lucy Cruise Bradford of the home; daughter Donna Bradford Compton and companion Edward R. Powell and special daughter in-law Laura Meeks Bradford all of Eden. He was a loving Papa to his grandchildren Demp Bradford and Ron Bradford of Greensboro; and Katelyn Compton of Eden. The delights of his life were his two great-grandchildren Natalie and Carlie. He is also survived by a special sister in-law Vergie Cruise Shively and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Kenneth Karb for his compassionate and dedicated care. A special thanks to the staffs of the Smith McMichael Cancer Center and the Morehead Day Hospital for taking care of him. Papa was loved and cared for by the outstanding staff of the Morehead Nursing Center who became his family and loved and cared for him as their Papa.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter-in law, Laura Bradford. 329 Pine Road, Eden.
