Brady Webster Mitchell, 17, went to his heavenly home on Monday, December 24, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 29th, at McMichael High School Gym. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 9 AM to 11 AM and other times at 100 Hampton Street in Stoneville.
Brady was born on March 29, 2001 and truly lived everyday to the fullest. He had an infectious smile and personality that drew people to him, young and old. It was apparent from an early age that he would always be surrounded by friends. From day one, friends and family were of great importance to him and there was rarely a time when there were not friends at his home, he was at friends houses or was on the go somewhere with his friends. Even greater than his love for his friends was his love of the Lord. He was never afraid to show or tell of that great love.
A huge fan of sports, Brady played soccer for most of his life and was a starting forward for McMichael High School's varsity team. He also loved to play basketball. Brady was a fan of many sports and led the student cheering section for McMichael's football, volleyball, basketball and baseball teams. Much to the disgust of nearly his entire family, Brady was a proud Tarheel fan.
Brady devoted much of his time to his youth group at Mayodan First Baptist Church. There he enjoyed participating in the youth praise band and many service projects. It was through this group that he discovered his favorite place on earth, youth camp "Look Up Lodge" in Traveler's Rest, SC. Brady spoke of this heavenly place constantly and desperately wanted to serve as a summer staffer there, as well as attend their gap year college program "Vox". Brady had many ideas for future careers, one of them being a youth pastor.
He loved his school and was a member of many clubs and organizations including SADD, Pep Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society. He was a good student, taking mostly Honors and AP classes. Brady loved everything about his school including the students, teachers and staff. It has been very apparent over the past year that the school loved him too with the incredible love and support shown to him.
Brady was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Glenn "Fuzz" and Jewel Weddington, Fred and Rosemary Mitchell, Tommy and Nancy King, Harold Pritchard and Ethel Pritchard. Also an aunt, Beth Mitchell.
Left to cherish his memory are father, Chad Mitchell and mother, Natalie Mitchell; his best friend and brother, Brandon Mitchell; grandparents, Hal and Glenda Pritchard and Worth and Nancy Mitchell; and an uncle, Bret Pritchard. He also had a host of great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins plus an enormous amount of friends that he loved as if they were his brothers and sisters; and his sweet puppy, Maxie.
The family extends great gratitude to the Oncology Department of Brenner's Children's Hospital and to Hospice of Rockingham County. Especially to his favorites: Dr. Thomas Russell, Kat Pearsall, and nurses, Nancy, Caroline, Stacey, Karen, Pat, Rachel, Laura, Jennifer, Tracey, Angela, Kim, A. J., Marcia, Ron and Bonnie. The love and care that was shown made his journey a little more bearable.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375; to Mayodan First Baptist Church, 101 1st Ave, Mayodan, NC 27027; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
