Blane Massey

September 12, 1935 — July 20, 2019

Blane Massey, age 83 of Eden passed away peacefully after losing a long battle of illness early Saturday, Morning, July 20, 2019 at his home. 

A graveside funeral service with full military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the United States National Guard, on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Charlie Carter officiating in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends other times at the residence and one hour prior to the service from (10 – 10:45am) at Fair Funeral Home before proceeding to the Cemetery and also following the service at Blane’s residence.

Mr. Massey was born on September 12, 1935 in the Spray Section of Eden, NC to the late William E. Massey and Flora E. Boyd Massey.  Shortly after high school Blane served his country proudly in the United States Army and served his tour of duty as a Paratrooper Jumper.  Blane had a long working career working for John Smith & Son, having helped build the local Madison Post Office, different parts of Miller Brewing Company, among other large commercial building projects.  After leaving John Smith & Son, Blane retired in the year 2005 from AIC as a foreman.  Mr. Massey was a patriotic man that believed in the American Dream therefore he was a member of the American Legion.  He loved listening to Bluegrass and Gospel music and he was known for never having met a stranger.  Blane enjoyed spending time with his family but Travis,  Harley, Wesley, Peyton, Kameron and Lauren, held a special place in his heart.  Blane loved his family very deeply but most of all he loved his beloved wife, Laura of 65 years.

Blane is survived by his love of his life, Laura Mae Hand Massey of the home; his four children, Wanda Messer and husband, Gordon of Sanford, NC; Kay Vaden and husband, Lee of Mayodan, Lisa Blake and life partner, Mike Chrzanowski of Durham, NC and Michael Massey and wife, Kate of Cary, NC; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family; special family friends, Linda Priddy O’Neal and Sandy Dillard; and beloved nephew, Sammy Massey.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 9 brothers and sister.

Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Blane to either The Eden Chapter of the American Legion, Hospice Home of Rockingham County; The American Red Cross or to the donor choice of charity or church.
