Billy "Bill" Sanford Mccollum

Billy "Bill" Sanford McCollum, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away in the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the age of 77 years. Bill was born in Eden, NC, the son of John Dennis McCollum and Betty Mae Patterson, attended school in North Carolina where he excelled in sports. Bill joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for over 10 years in the 4750th Air base squadron as a Military Policeman with the rank of Sergeant and received numerous awards and honors including the National Defense Service Medal. He was also an avid outdoor sportsman. As a businessman, he owned and operated several Beverage Companies his largest, "M & M Beverages", being in the Houston area. Bill is survived by one son, four daughters & spouses, Coy & Lori McCollum of Fredericksburg, TX, Christi & Clay Napper of Kerrville, TX, Cindy & Tommy Poynter of Sugar Land, TX, Carol Haley of Dallas, TX, Beth Smart of NC; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; the mother of his children, Jan McCollum of Fredericksburg, TX. Four sisters, one brother, Lois Purdy, Helen Ferris, Patsy Underwood, Lorene Henry and Jack McCollum Memorial services and Interment of his cremains will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Eden, NC. Those who so desire may make memorial contributions in his memory to the charity of their choice.
