Betty Haneline Hicks

Betty Jean (Haneline) Hicks, 83, of Ridgeway, Virginia, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 9, 2026.

Born on July 18, 1943, Betty lived a life marked by unwavering faith, steadfast devotion to her family, and faithful service to the church. For more than six decades, she ministered alongside her beloved husband, Pastor Emeritus Bill Hicks, serving as a pastor's wife and church pianist for 65 years. Through her music, encouragement, and Christ-centered example, she touched countless lives and helped lead others in worship and service to the Lord.

Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, faithful sister, and treasured friend. Her life reflected the love, grace, and faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Whether through a song played at the piano, a word of encouragement, or a quiet act of kindness, she faithfully served the Lord and demonstrated His love to those around her.

She shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Bill Hicks, a testimony of love, commitment, faithfulness and God's sustaining grace.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Haneline; her mother, Lorine Haneline; and her sister, Mary Frances Stewart.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Pastor Emeritus Bill Hicks; her sister, Shirley Davis; her daughter, Renee Hodges and husband Greg; and her son, Pastor Craig Hicks and wife Patty.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Joshua Hicks (Michelle), Hannah Scotton (James), Jonathan Hicks (Remi), James Hodges, Jr. (Anna), and Lydia Horsley (Nick).

Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Daniel Hicks, Cheyenne Hicks, Jordan Capps, Blake Capps, Isabella Scotton, Emerson Scotton, Eli Scotton, Elliott Scotton, Josie Horsley, Lilabet Hodges, Ambrose Hodges, and Paisley Hicks.

She is also survived by two nephews, Chris Stewart and Kenny Lee Stewart, and one niece, Carmen Robertson. 

She is also survived by extended grandchildren, Jamie and LeighAnn Slaughter, and great grandchild, Jacob Slaughter. 

While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at home with her Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Her life and legacy leaves a lasting testimony of faith, love, and dedication to Christ that will continue to inspire future generations.
