Betsy Casteen Wright, 84, of 421 Lynrock Street in Eden and Galloway Ridge in Pittsboro passed away Saturday evening, March 27, 2010 at Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 31, at Lawson Cemetery. A native of Rockingham County, Mrs. Wright was born October 28, 1925, daughter of the late Dr. Kenan Casteen and Pearl Roberts Casteen. She was a member of Leaksville United Methodist Church. She attended Leaksville High School and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Raleigh. In 1946 she received her B.A. from Salem College in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Wright returned to Leaksville High School where she taught prior to becoming a mother. She spent her early married life devoted to her husband and her six children. Being active in her community was very important to Mrs. Wright as reflected in her civic duties and leadership as a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Leaksville-Spray History Club, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and as a leader in the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. She was also active in The League of Women Voters. Surviving is her husband, Homer E. Wright, Jr. of the home; her three daughters, Beth Wright of Chapel Hill, Martha W. Hopkins and husband, Dwight of Eden, and Margaret Wright Wills and husband, Warren of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Edward Wright and wife, Phyllis of Hillsborough, and Kenan Wright and wife, Molly of Eden; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Allison and Claire Wright, David, Franklin and Isaac Hopkins, and Margaret and Elizabeth Wright; and two sisters, Kenan C. Carpenter of Winston-Salem and Patsy C. Gentry of Redondo Beach, CA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Wright. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Morehead Memorial Hospital Foundation (in memory of Dr. Kenan Casteen), 117 E. Kings Hwy., Eden, NC 27288.
