Bessie Jean Hallyburton Galloway

Bessie Jean Hallyburton Galloway, 89, of Eden passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at UNC Rockingham Health Care in Eden.

An inurnment will be held at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Columbarium, in Burke County, NC, at a later date.

Bessie was born October 5, 1934, in Burke County, NC, to the late Cecil Hallyburton and Erma “Sally” Nichols Hallyburton. She was a graduate of Morganton High School. Bessie worked as a secretary and office manager for Pacific Air Command in the U.S. Air Force, and later at the Social Security Administration and local doctor’s offices. She enjoyed square dancing, where her husband, John, was a caller. Bessie loved traveling, crafts, and flower arranging.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Cecil Galloway (Debbie) of Eden, John P. Galloway, III, of Rockville, MD; brother, Wayne Hallyburton of Port St. Lucie, FL; grandchildren, Steven Galloway, Nick Galloway (Erica), Sam Galloway; great-grandchildren, Claire, Robbie, Aiden.

In addition to her parents, Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, John Pinkney Galloway, Jr.; grandson, Matthew Galloway; daughter-in-law, Fran Galloway; sister, Agnes Chapman.
