Barbara Hunter Wright

Barbara Ann Hunter Wright, 90, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at her home in Eden, surrounded by her loving family.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Overlook Cemetery in Eden.

Barbara was born and raised in Eden to the late Charles Edwin Hunter Jr. and Ruby Campbell Hunter. She graduated from Tri-City High School in 1953, where she proudly served as a majorette in the marching band.

Barbara began her career at Home Savings and Loan, where she worked for many years before joining Rockingham County Social Services. She dedicated 20 years of faithful service there before retiring.

A lifelong member of Riverview Presbyterian Church, Barbara was deeply devoted to her faith. She especially loved gospel music and was a member of a church trio, sharing her beautiful voice in worship for many years.

Barbara treasured spending time with her family and never turned down a trip to the beach—especially if it included a little shopping. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and created countless cherished memories with those she loved. She loved hosting an annual Christmas party for family and friends and other joyous occasions.

One of Barbara's greatest blessings was the love she shared with her high school sweetheart and devoted husband, Jimmy Wright. Together they built a beautiful life and celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Jimmy Wright; her two daughters, Tori Jackson and her husband, Chuck Jackson, and Paige Martin and her husband, Reggie Martin; her five grandchildren, Ben Martin and his wife, Kaitlyn Martin, Karsen Damian and her husband, Jose Damian, Parker Martin, Kyle Agee, and Grey Martin and his wife, Jayden Martin; her two beloved great-grandchildren, Beckett Damian and Marlowe Martin; and her lifelong best friend, Norma "Yippy" Woody, who shared a sister-like bond with Barbara that was a treasured blessing throughout her life.

Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love of music, her warm heart, and the deep love she had for her family. Her kindness, grace, and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
