Barbara Harvey Spurlin

Barbara (Bobbie) Ernestine Harvey Spurlin was born June 11, 1954 in New Port News, Virginia to Troy Ernest Harvey and Nelbert Delena Boyte Harvey and passed from this life on May 11, 2025 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with burial following at Dan View Cemetery.

Bobbie grew up most of her life in the New Port News, Va area as well as spending her summers in Eden with her Mama Boyte, Granny Dehart, and numerous other family members; and on August 22, 1970 married John Laurance (Larry) Spurlin in New Port News, Virgina.

The first few years of their marriage were spent traveling while Larry finished his stint in the US Navy, but they eventually settled in Reydon, Oklahoma where they ran a dairy farm and had five children. They retired from the Dairy business and Barbara worked in a few different nursing homes and home health agencies as well as Roger Mills Memorial Hospital as a CNA/CMA for a while. After a while,

Barbara yearned for “home” and moved back to Eden to live her final years with her childhood best friend and cousin Debra Moore where they spent their time reminiscing their childhood years and “living life to the fullest”.

Barbara is survived by her husband, John (Larry) Spurlin; daughters Rebecca Irene Richeson, Martha Elisabeth (Jerry) Dollins, Mary Delena (Wayne) Carman, and Tabitha Lucinda (Micheal) Reed); her son John Laurance Harvey Spurlin, her honorary daughter Dalea Irene Robison (Colin), as well as her brother Sam (Denise) Harvey and a very special Niece Crystal Bell (Kevin) Boyd, 24 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by both parents Troy and Nelbert Harvey; her maternal grandmother, Mama Boyte, her mother- and father-in-law, Walter and Olive Spurlin; a brother Bobby Harvey and a Sister Janice Fox Bell. The family would like to ask that anyone with special memories or stories about Bobbie feel free to share them with us.
