Our beautiful mother, Barbara Dean Marshall Janney, 88, went home to be with our LORD on April 8, 2026.
A source of comfort, humor, and unconditional love, her kindness and love extended to everyone she met. We will remember her as the steady heart of our family, whose love and encouragement shaped who we are today.
A funeral service will be held at First Church of the Brethren at 2:00pm on Monday, April 13, 2026. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service as well as at other times at the home of Ronald and Barbara Janney.
Barbara’s beautiful life started in Westfield, NC. Born to Vernice Pyrtle Marshall and Arthur Marshall. After the death of her father, Barbara moved to Eden. She met Ronald and married in 1960. That blessed journey lasted 65 years and produced three children who consider themselves the most blessed on Earth to be part of this family.
Barbara worked for People’s Finance and Fieldcrest Mills, where she retired. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren. In her younger days, Barbara loved duckpin bowling, playing softball, vacationing at the beach and being with family. Some of her fondest memories were singing in the Brethren Choir, participating in the Loyal Sons and Daughters Sunday School class, helping with Meals on Wheels and Cooperative Christian Ministries, among many other volunteer activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Marshall, Vernice Pyrtle Marshall Rakestraw, and stepfather C.B. Rakestraw; brothers-in-law, Hassell Haley and James Eanes; sister-in-law, Pat Janney; and niece, Leigh Ann Ferracane.
Left to cherish her memory: her husband, Ronald Janney; her children, Don, Mike (Amy), and Lisa (Billy); her grandchildren, Will Janney, William King (Taylor), Alex King; and one great-grandchild, Sibyl King. She also leaves behind her sister, Janie Lee Eanes; sister-in-law, Gail Haley; brothers-in-law, Morris Janney (Sandra), Gary Janney (Joanne); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to Ancora Compassionate Care, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or First Church of the Brethren-Eden, 730 Church St, Eden, NC 27288.
Funeral arrangements are being directed by Fair Funeral Home.
