Annie Jean Rutledge Carter

Annie Jean Rutledge Carter, 86, of 381 Longhook Road in Eden, passed away Friday morning, January 13, 2017, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 16, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carter was born July 11, 1930 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Andrew and Lily Rutledge.  She was a member of First Wesleyan Church and an retiree of American Tobacco Company.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Moss of Eden;  son, Tommy Carter of Eden;  three grandchildren, Kami, Myra, and Mark James;  and sisters, Gayle Powell and husband, Donald of Reidsville, Patsy Elaine James of Eden, Maxine Hudson of Eden, Dixie Edwards of Asheville, and Carolyn Robertson of Eden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carter, Sr.;  brothers, Russell and Frankie Rutledge;  and sister, Linda Gilley.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the ICU Staff of Morehead Memorial Hospital and to Carolina Freightways for all their care and support.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
