Alvin Gray Murray, Sr.

Alvin Gray Murray, Sr., 86, of Eden, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at UNC Health Rockingham.

A funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery in Eden. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10-11am, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends at other times at the home, 280 NC Hwy 700, Eden.

Alvin was born June 14, 1936, in New Hanover County, NC, to the late Swindell Murray, Sr. and Sally Grafflin Murray. He was a member of Souls Harbor Holiness Church in Axton, VA. He worked as Manager of Byrd’s Grocery until retiring in 1996. He later worked at Walmart until retiring in 2014.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Virginia Adkins Murray; children, Alvin G. Murray, Jr. (Joan), of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Janet Gusler (Barry) of Mayodan, NC, Sharon Miles of Hickory, NC, Donna Robinson of Candler, NC, Gena Moore (Scott) of Eden, NC, Tralania Cockrum (Steve) of Eden, NC; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; special nephew, Ray Murray (Janet).

In addition to his parents, Alvin is preceded in death by his first wife, Dixie M. Murray; brothers, Marion Murray, Johnny Murray, Raymond Murray, Swindell Murray, Jr.; sisters, Margie Murray, Bertha Whittemore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Souls Harbor Holiness Church, 5985 Irisburg Rd, Axton, VA 24054.
