Alton Clay Axsom

Alton Clay Axsom, age 78 of 2500 John Ave. SW Supply, NC, formerly Revolan Court , Greensboro, NC, passed away Tuesday morning, March 15, 2011 at Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply, NC after a long period of ill health. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Friday, March 18, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Dan View Cemetery in Eden, NC. Mr. Axsom was born March 10, 1933 in Rockingham County, NC, son of the late Andrew and Dove Talbert Axsom and was the last survivor of 9 children. Al graduated from Draper High School in Rockingham County and served four years in the US Air Force. He reitred as a long-time emloyee of Sears-Robuck Mailorder in Greensboro and was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church in Greensboro. He and Betty retired to Holden Beach in 2001 and he was very active in the community. He had a great love of family and friends and received much joy from helping others. He will be greatly missed. Surviving is his wife, Betty McLaurin Axsom of the home; sons, Brian Axsom of Boulder, Colorado and Brent English and wife, Tara of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Susan Axsom Morgan and husband Gerald of Apex, NC and Rhona English Sherrill and husband, Michael of San Ramon, California; five grandchildren, Ashley, Seth, Mary Ann, Griffin and a new granddaughter, yet unnamed, who was born today; and a sister in law, Faye Axsom of Axton, Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Hancock Young. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service (1 - 3 PM) at Fair Funeral Home.
