Addie Ruth Foley Handy, 90, of 507 Washburn Avenue in Eden, passed away Tuesday evening, October 10, 2017 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 14th, at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. There will be no formal visitation, however, the family will receive friends at her home.
Mrs. Handy was born July 18, 1927 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Samuel and Susie Willard Foley. She worked for many years in textiles and was a resident of the Spray community for most of her life. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, took pride in her large garden where she grew a variety of vegetables for canning every summer, and delighted in being "Nanny" to her granddaughter, Amber. Mrs. Handy was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue H. Ayers and husband, James and Vicki H. Robertson and husband, Sam, all of Eden; granddaughter, Amber Robertson and significant other, Sherman Mohr of Nashville, TN; sister, Vicky F. Eggleston and husband, Roy of Eden; sister-in-law, Opal S. Foley of Eden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mrs. Handy in death, along with her parents, were her son, Jerry M. Handy; husband, John A. Handy; as well as her brothers Wesley Foley, Clement Foley, Rufus Foley, and Marshall Foley; and sisters, Mildred Pulliam, Alice Robertson, Minnie Crouch, Millie Page, and Dovie Roberts.
